Join a collaborative neonatal care team as a Travel Registered Nurse in Tacoma, Washington. This 13-week travel nursing assignment offers the opportunity to care for high-acuity neonatal patients in a Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and supportive pediatric care environment. Tacoma offers the best of the Puget Sound region, with easy access to waterfront destinations, outdoor recreation, cultural attractions, and the greater Seattle area.
Travel Nursing Job Details
- Location: Tacoma, Washington
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,130-$2,250
- Assignment: 13 weeks, from November 2, 2026 through January 30, 2027
- Schedule: 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 a.m.-7:30 p.m.; 36 hours per week
- Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend; occasional back-to-back weekends may occur
- Call: Not required
- Unit: Level IV NICU with approximately 70 beds and a typical census of 50 patients
- Charting System: Epic
- Scheduling: Block scheduling may be available but is not guaranteed
- Travel Experience: First-time travel nurses may be considered, although prior travel nursing experience is strongly preferred
NICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- At least 2 years of recent Registered Nurse experience in a Level III or Level IV NICU
- Active Washington Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Recent experience providing respiratory support for ventilated neonates
- Strong knowledge of NCPAP, UAC/UVC management, PICC lines, medication administration, care planning, and discharge preparation
- Experience caring for patients with g-tubes and NG/OG tubes
- Trach experience is highly preferred but not required
- Ability to work collaboratively, maintain a positive attitude, and adapt to changing neonatal patient-care needs
NICU Travel Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive neonatal nursing care to premature infants, including neonates born as early as 22 weeks gestation
- Care for patients with respiratory distress syndrome, high-risk delivery needs, neonatal abstinence syndrome, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, and other complex neonatal conditions
- Manage respiratory support, including ventilators and NCPAP, while monitoring neonatal status and response to treatment
- Perform and assist with care involving UAC/UVC lines, PICC lines, g-tubes, and NG/OG tubes
- Administer medications, develop and update individualized care plans, and communicate changes in condition to the interdisciplinary healthcare team
- Support the care of feeders and growers, surgical patients, and neonates transitioning toward discharge home
- Participate in care for high-risk deliveries and collaborate with providers, families, and pediatric specialists
- Float to Med-Surg or PICU for patients under one year of age, or provide support as a helping-hands nurse, when needed
