Medical-Surgical Travel Nursing Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,890-$1,990
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks
- Start Date: October 26, 2026
- Schedule: Four 12-hour day shifts per week
- Shift Duration: 12-hour days, approximately 6:00 a.m.-6:30 p.m.
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Call Requirement: None
- Patient Population: Adults and geriatric patients
- Typical Daily Census: Approximately 35 patients
- Patient Assignment: Approximately 6-7 patients
- Charting: Cerner experience required
- Orientation: Approximately 24 hours, including virtual pre-start orientation and required modules
- Floating: Required within the nurse's scope of practice to meet department and hospital needs
Travel Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Active Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license in hand at submission
- Minimum 2 years of recent medical-surgical nursing experience
- Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers are not accepted
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIHSS certification
- Telemetry and cardiac monitoring experience, including remote monitoring and dysrhythmia management
- Experience with Cerner electronic medical records
- Experience caring for medically complex adult and geriatric patients
- Ability to provide care in a Level II trauma environment preferred
- Strong communication, clinical judgment, organization, and teamwork skills
Med/Surg Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for adult and geriatric medical-surgical patients in an acute-care setting.
- Assess patients, develop and implement individualized care plans, and evaluate outcomes.
- Monitor cardiac rhythms and recognize changes requiring intervention.
- Respond to changes in patient condition and participate in rapid response and emergency care.
- Manage patients with conditions including heart failure, renal failure, acute kidney injury, diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, sepsis, gastrointestinal bleeding, infections, cellulitis, osteomyelitis, shortness of breath, falls, and neurologic diagnoses.
- Provide pre- and post-hemodialysis care and support patients receiving peritoneal dialysis.
- Perform and manage peripheral IVs, PICC lines, central-line blood draws, port access, blood product administration, and phlebotomy.
- Administer and monitor medications and therapies including heparin, insulin, patient-controlled analgesia, and IV therapies.
- Provide respiratory support and monitoring involving nasal cannula, oxygen masks, portable oxygen, high-flow nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, and tracheostomy care.
- Deliver wound care, wound-vac management, colostomy and ileostomy care, feeding-tube care, surgical-drain management, and continuous bladder irrigation as indicated.
- Collaborate with respiratory therapy, physical therapy, IV teams, pharmacy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, and other interdisciplinary partners.
- Document assessments, interventions, medication administration, and patient response accurately in Cerner.
- Float within scope of practice and maintain safe, compassionate care across assigned departments.
