Psychiatric Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license
- At least 1 year of recent behavioral health or psychiatric nursing experience
- Ability to provide nursing care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations
- Willingness to remain flexible regarding assignments across shifts and behavioral health units
- Strong patient assessment, therapeutic communication, de-escalation, and crisis-management skills
- Commitment to maintaining patient safety, dignity, and confidentiality
Behavioral Health RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive psychiatric nursing care to patients in adolescent, adult, and geriatric behavioral health units
- Complete nursing assessments, develop and update individualized care plans, and monitor patient progress
- Administer medications safely and evaluate patients for therapeutic response and adverse effects
- Support patients experiencing major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, and other behavioral health conditions
- Recognize changes in mental and physical status and communicate concerns promptly to the interdisciplinary care team
- Use therapeutic communication and evidence-based de-escalation techniques to promote a safe environment
- Collaborate with providers, therapists, and other clinical professionals to coordinate patient-centered behavioral health care
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and follow all applicable behavioral health and safety protocols
