Experienced medical-surgical Registered Nurses can join a dedicated adult stroke stepdown team in Utica, New York, through this 13-week travel nursing contract. Care for patients with complex neurological and medical conditions in a 64-bed unit while collaborating with a supportive clinical team focused on high-quality patient care. This on-site New York travel nursing assignment offers 12-hour night shifts in the scenic Mohawk Valley, near the Adirondack region.
Travel Nursing Job Details
- Position: Travel Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical Stroke Stepdown
- Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract
- Location: Utica, New York
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,970–$2,080
- Start Date: November 9, 2026
- End Date: February 6, 2027
- Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, 3 shifts per week
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Shift Hours: 6:30 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
- Unit: Adult medical-surgical stroke stepdown
- Patient Population: Adult patients
- Floating: Required

Medical-Surgical Travel RN Requirements
- Registered Nurse with at least 2 years of recent medical-surgical nursing experience, including stroke stepdown experience
- Previous travel nursing experience required
- Active New York RN license required
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required; certification may be obtained before the assignment begins
- Current resume documenting relevant medical-surgical and travel nursing experience
- Demonstrated ability to care for adult patients with complex medical and neurological conditions
Stroke Stepdown Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to adult patients in a medical-surgical stroke stepdown unit
- Assess, monitor, and manage patients with stroke, altered mental status, renal disease, dialysis needs, COPD, CHF, pneumonia, pulmonary conditions, and isolation requirements
- Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly communicate findings to the interdisciplinary healthcare team
- Administer medications and treatments while following established patient-safety and infection-control standards
- Use IV pumps, nasogastric tubes, and feeding tubes safely and effectively
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in Epic
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to support positive patient outcomes
- Float to other appropriate units as assigned and adapt quickly to changing patient-care needs
