Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN) – Travel Nursing Contract in Madison, Wisconsin

Join a high-volume Emergency Department as an experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN) in Madison, Wisconsin. This 13-week travel nursing assignment offers the opportunity to care for adult and pediatric patients in a dynamic Level IV Trauma Center recognized for comprehensive emergency services, rapid stabilization, and coordinated care across the health system.

Travel Nurse Job Details

  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,250–$2,370
  • Assignment Type: Travel nursing contract
  • Location: Madison, Wisconsin
  • Start Date: November 16, 2026
  • Duration: 13 weeks, ending February 15, 2027
  • Schedule: Night shifts, 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.; three 12-hour shifts per week
  • Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Patient Population: Neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and older adults
  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:4
  • Department Volume: Approximately 140 daily visits, with 40 exam rooms and additional vertical-care spaces
  • Weekend and Holiday Coverage: Weekend rotation and holidays as needed
  • Float Requirement: Float to affiliated units as needed
  • Local Candidate Policy: Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the assignment location

Emergency Department Registered Nurse Requirements

  • Active Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license or Compact RN license
  • At least 2 years of Emergency Department or Emergency Room nursing experience with both adult and pediatric populations within the last 3 years
  • Experience caring for patients in a Level II trauma environment required; Level I trauma experience preferred
  • Previous travel nursing experience required
  • Epic electronic health record (EHR) charting experience required
  • Current American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
  • Current TNCC certification
  • Successful completion of a telemetry examination before the assignment start date
  • Ability to meet strict telemetry testing criteria, including recognition of lethal rhythms and third-degree heart blocks
  • Current influenza vaccination required; medical and religious exemptions may be considered

Emergency Nursing Responsibilities

  • Perform rapid triage, assessment, and stabilization of patients across the lifespan
  • Deliver evidence-based emergency nursing care for trauma, cardiac, respiratory, neurologic, psychiatric, infectious, and other acute conditions
  • Manage patients requiring ventilatory support, BiPAP/CPAP, IV vasopressors, continuous sedation, and emergency medications
  • Interpret dysrhythmias and 12-lead ECGs while recognizing life-threatening cardiac rhythms
  • Provide care for patients experiencing stroke, STEMI, seizures, overdose, burns, acute psychosis, suicidal ideation, multisystem organ failure, and traumatic injuries
  • Initiate and maintain IV access; administer blood products and prescribed medications
  • Assist with procedural sedation, intubation, chest tube management, central-line care, splinting, and other emergency procedures within scope
  • Apply appropriate isolation precautions and personal protective equipment
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory services, radiology, pharmacy, social services, transportation, and other interdisciplinary partners
  • Support rapid response activities throughout the hospital and coordinate care with ambulance and air-medical transport teams
  • Float as needed while maintaining safe, organized, and compassionate patient care
