Travel Nursing Job Details

- Weekend Requirement: Three weekend shifts within a four-week period
- Patient Ratios: Approximately 1 nurse to 5–6 patients
- Charting System: Epic electronic health record (EHR)
- Floating: Other medical units as needed
- Dress Code: Caribbean blue scrubs
- Orientation: Hospital orientation, nursing orientation, and Epic training
Medical-Surgical RN Job Requirements
- Active Indiana RN license or compact RN license
- Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association
- At least 1.5 years of nursing experience in a Level I, Level II, or tertiary-care setting
- At least 1 year of Medical-Surgical RN experience in a large hospital setting, preferably a facility with 450 or more beds
- Demonstrated ability to provide safe, comprehensive care to diverse adult medical-surgical patients
- Strong patient assessment, clinical prioritization, communication, and teamwork skills
- Ability to work 12-hour night shifts and meet the weekend scheduling requirement
Medical-Surgical RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive acute-care medical-surgical nursing, including patient assessments, care planning, nursing interventions, and evaluation of outcomes.
- Care for adult patients with conditions such as COPD, diabetes, CHF, end-stage renal disease, pancreatitis, gastrointestinal disorders, pneumonia, sepsis, stroke, dementia, traumatic brain injuries, and substance-use or behavioral health concerns.
- Monitor and manage patients before and after procedures such as colonoscopy, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, minor surgeries, biopsies, and amputations.
- Administer medications and therapies, including heparin and insulin infusions, IV therapy, enteral feedings, and blood glucose monitoring.
- Manage and monitor IV pumps, feeding pumps and tubes, chest tubes, wound vacs, telemetry, sequential compression devices, and other unit equipment.
- Document accurately in the Epic electronic health record and use medication-dispensing and point-of-care systems appropriately.
- Communicate effectively with providers, patients, families, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- Float to other medical units and adapt quickly to changing patient-care needs while maintaining high standards of nursing care.
