Job Summary
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) implements the plan of care established by the Physical Therapist (PT) and provides treatment to patients of all ages. The PTA serves as a role model in the delivery of professional services and acts as a clinical resource for staff and students.
Job Responsibilities
- Implement and follow the treatment plan of care established by the Physical Therapist.
- Provide patient care through therapeutic exercise, gait and balance training, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and aquatic therapy.
- Educate patients, families, caregivers, students, and healthcare providers using appropriate teaching methods.
- Monitor patient responses to treatment and communicate any necessary adjustments with the evaluating PT before modifying interventions.
- Coordinate with the PT regarding patient progress, treatment interventions, and recommendations.
- Communicate with referring providers regarding patient progress and treatment recommendations.
- Complete accurate daily documentation and charging in the therapy EMR.
- Maintain documentation in accordance with the Clinical Documentation Policy (CTSCP67).
- Complete annual education requirements, when applicable, for DNV Hip and Knee Replacement Program compliance.
- Serve as a clinical resource and support professional development for staff and students.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 1 year of relevant Physical Therapist Assistant experience.
- Strong patient assessment and treatment skills.
- Knowledge of therapeutic exercise, gait and balance training, and rehabilitation interventions.
- Effective communication and patient education skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with PTs and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Strong clinical documentation skills.
Education
- Associate's Degree in Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) or equivalent required.
Required Certifications & Licensure
- Active Illinois PTA License
- AHA BLS
