Registered Nurse – Labor & Delivery:

Position: Registered Nurse – Labor & Delivery
Facility: Rochester General Hospital – Rochester, NY
Contract: 13 Weeks
Shifts: 7:00 AM–7:00 PM OR 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
Weekend: Every Other Weekend
Call: None
First-Time Travelers: Accepted
Radius Rule: RNs living within 75 miles of the facility are not accepted
Holiday: Must be available to work every other holiday, if needed

License & Certifications

• Active New York RN license required
• Pending license not accepted
• New York is not a Compact state
• BLS required
• NRP required
• EFM certification required
• OB-ACLS or ACLS required

Required Clinical Experience

Candidates must be comfortable with the following Labor & Delivery skills:

• Assist with vaginal deliveries
• Circulate for C-sections
• Recover C-section patients
• Magnesium Sulfate therapy
• Pitocin/Oxytocin administration
• Terbutaline
• APGAR scoring
• Baby Nurse / "Baby Catcher" responsibilities
• Newborn ID and security banding
• Radiant warmers and thermoregulation
• Foley catheter insertion and management
• Fundus, lochia, and perineal assessment/care
• Postpartum hemorrhage management
• Pregnancy-induced hypertension
• Non-Stress Tests (NST)
• External Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
• Intrauterine Pressure Catheter (IUPC) placement and calibration

EFM Experience

Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) experience is required. The RN should be comfortable with:

• Continuous fetal heart rate monitoring
• External fetal monitoring
• Interpreting fetal heart rate patterns
• Monitoring uterine activity
• Recognizing non-reassuring fetal heart rate patterns
• IUPC use, including placement and calibration

Charting

• EPIC experience required
• Non-EPIC systems include CPN / GE Centricity
• Strong documentation skills required

Scheduling & Time Off

• RTO, block scheduling, and special scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of candidate submission.
• Client may cancel/call off up to 3 shifts during the 13-week contract without charges for the canceled hours.

Unit Details

The Labor & Delivery unit cares for pregnant patients of any gestational age who are accepted by the provider team.

Triage: Evaluates:

• Pregnant patients at any gestational age
• Postpartum patients up to 6 weeks after delivery

Equipment includes:

• GE fetal and telemetry monitors
• Monica wireless fetal monitoring
• Neopuff
• Draeger newborn warmers

Floating: May be required within the RN's skill set.

Scrub Color: Hospital provided.

Hospital Overview

Rochester General Hospital is a 528-bed acute care teaching facility in Rochester, NY. The Labor & Delivery department, known as the Twig Birthing Center, provides private birthing suites, on-unit operating rooms, advanced fetal monitoring, and OB and midwifery services.

The unit also supports family-centered care, lactation services, hydrotherapy, and postpartum care.
