Registered Nurse – Observation Unit

Job Overview

• Provide care for adult patients in a fast-paced Observation unit.
• Manage patients needing additional observation to determine if hospital admission is necessary or if they can be safely discharged.
• Care for a diverse adult population including emergency observation and admitted boarding patients.
• Patient turnover ranges from 20 to 27 per day with an average length of stay of approximately 27 hours.
• Unit operates with 24/7 provider coverage.
• Patient stays range from short observation to full admissions.

Work Schedule

• 12-hour shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Includes day, evening, night, rotating shifts, on-call, call back, charge responsibilities, holidays, and weekends as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in New York State only.
• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience.
• Telemetry experience required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

Preferred Qualifications

• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification is preferred but not required.
