Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

• Surgical unit with orthopedic and joint focus (total knee/hip replacements, spinal fusions, hip fractures, ortho trauma)
• Fully surgical with occasional medical overflow
• Average daily census: 34 patients; 48 beds/rooms
• Shift: 3 x 12-hour nights (18:45 - 07:15), 36 hours per week
• Call: None
• Float: Required if census drops (travelers float first)
• Weekend: Every other weekend required
• Scheduling and orientation: Per unit needs
• Scrubs: Navy blue (not provided)
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Required Skills & Certifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Experience in orthopedics, including total joint replacement and spinal surgery
• Management of dysrhythmias
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

• Orthopedics: Total joint replacement and spinal surgery experience

Patient Diagnoses & Equipment

• Common diagnoses: Total knee/hip replacement, spinal fusions, hip fractures, ortho trauma, med/surg overflow
• Special equipment: Frequent wound vacs and drains

Unit Systems

• Pyxis medication system
• EPIC electronic health record (required)
• SBAR communication method

Required Background & Compliance Checks

• Background checks within 90 days prior to start, including:

  • Local county, federal court, national criminal database, DOJ sex offender search
  • Education verification for highest degree relevant to profession
• Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative results required)
• Physical exam within 1 year of start (30 days if past positive TB)
• Fit mask testing (N95 or PAPR training) within 1 year of start
• Negative TB test or chest x-ray per facility guidelines
• Required immunizations or titers: Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (facility-specific declination form if titer negative)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption with mask requirement
• Required state-specific registry and exclusion list checks within 90 days prior to start

Required Competency & Orientation Exams

• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (must pass with 82% or higher on first attempt within 72 hours)
• Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
• Color blindness testing within 1 year (score ≥80%)
• Facility-specific orientation and education modules (including medication safety, confidentiality, compliance training)

Additional Requirements

• Must complete facility-specific education checklists and orientation modules (may take 8-10 hours)
• Must complete facility-required documentation such as confidentiality agreement, tobacco-free campus acknowledgement, hospital policies, and company phone agreement
• Photo for badge required (passport style, white background, business attire)
• Must provide professional references per agency requirements
• No call-offs or additional RTO allowed after booking; violations may lead to cancellation

• Float and weekend work expected

• Navy blue scrubs required but not provided
