Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Unit: Cardiothoracic ICU (CVICU)
- Shift: Night shift, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (19:00 - 7:30)
- Hours per Week: 48 hours (36 or 48 contracted hours/week guaranteed)
- Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in specialty (CVICU preferred)
- First-time travelers: Accepted
- Weekend Requirement: As needed
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: May be floated within scope to other ICUs, PCU floors, ED, PACU for admitted patients
- Local Radius Rule: No locals within 100 miles accepted
- Pending License: Accepted with approval
- Return to Office Restrictions: Absences greater than 7 days require approval
- Block Scheduling: Not guaranteed

Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid non-local driver’s license (identification cards not accepted)
- Social Security Card (copy may be requested)
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within one year of start
- Fingerprinting required onsite during orientation (unless completed within past 12 months)
- Education verification or diploma/transcript if third-party verification unavailable
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (Qgold, Tspot, or PPD with mm reading)
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Immunizations/vaccinations:
- Rubeola (Measles): 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer
- Mumps: 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer
- Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer (history of disease not accepted)
- Hepatitis B: Declination, series, or titer acceptable
- Negative drug screen within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted)
- Annual flu vaccination or approved exemption (required year-round)
- Cerner training attestation required for new hires starting 8/4/25 orientation group (test-out option available)
- Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam required (must score ≥80%, 100% on lethal arrhythmia section) with two attempts allowed
- Medication and pharmacology competency exams required (minimum 80% passing score)
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB/MOAB) certification required for behavioral health units (can be obtained onsite if not held prior)
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification may be required depending on unit
- Fit mask testing required within 1 year of start (specific N95 masks accepted; PAPR accommodations available if needed)
Additional Notes
- Overtime applies after 48 hours worked per week starting 10/30/2025
- New contracts and extensions must be at least 10 weeks in length
- A 6-month break is required for travelers after 4 consecutive assignments or 1 year of cumulative work, whichever comes first
- Two professional references within 3 years of hire required
- Complete employment application with at least 3 years of work history required
- Work history verification for 3 years required, including detailed verification information
- Orientation includes fingerprinting, background checks, and competency testing onsite
This position offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for experienced CVICU Registered Nurses seeking travel assignments with exposure to advanced cardiac care and critical care technologies in a Level I Trauma teaching hospital setting.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New Mexico
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
