Description
Registered Nurse – Emergency Department (Travel/Contract)
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Job Overview
- Work primarily with admitted patients in the Emergency Department (ED), which functions as a Level I Trauma center and includes a Children's Hospital and Teaching Hospital.
- Shifts: Night shifts, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (typically 36 hours/week). Some 48-hour shifts possible.
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 5 patients.
- Approximately 60%-80% of ED patients are admitted; many rooms serve as ED Holding.
- Floating: Expected to float to Adult Progressive Care Units (PCUs); optional floating to Pediatric ED, ED Holding, and Trauma Department of Emergency (DOE).
- Weekend work required as needed (weekend days = Sat/Sun; weekend nights = Fri, Sat, Sun).
- No local hires within 100 miles accepted.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New Mexico
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, with ED experience within the last year
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- PALS certification
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Assignment Details
- Contract length: Minimum 13 weeks.
- Guaranteed hours: Contracted hours per week (36/40/48), with facility allowed to call off up to 3 times during the 13-week assignment.
- Overtime: Paid after 48 hours worked (for contracts signed on or after 10/30/2025).
- Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions: Absences longer than 7 days require approval.
- Block scheduling: Not accommodated.
- COVID-19 vaccine: Optional; facility reports vaccination status. Upload vaccine series or declination.

- Uses Cerner electronic charting system.

- Location not near public transportation; valid non-local driver’s license required.
Additional Notes
- Must have TNCC certification before submission; NIH Stroke Certification can pend until compliance due date before start.

- Work Experience Checklist and Confidentiality Statement are not required due to crisis credentialing policies.
- Six-month break required after four consecutive assignments or one year of cumulative work, whichever comes first.
