Description
Start Date: June 8, 2026
Location: Newark, New Jersey
Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants
Schedule: 12-hour shifts; every other weekend required; must work 1 of 2 or 2 of 3 holidays per unit needs; flexibility required for end-of-shift time based on documentation and patient care needs
Highlights:
- Provide specialized wound care for ICU patients, including open heart surgery and heart and lung transplant cases in an acute care/critical care setting
- Focus on pressure injury prevention and management; interface with primary nurses and educators to validate staging, assessments, and treatment plans
- Participate in wound rounds and prevalence studies; maintain detailed Excel spreadsheets tracking key metrics such as staging and hospital-acquired vs. present-on-admission status
- Work with EPIC charting system in a 665-bed acute care teaching hospital offering advanced quaternary services
- First-time travelers accepted; locals welcome at the same rate
- Call-off policy allows facility to call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
Requirements:
- Active New Jersey or Compact RN license required at time of submission
- BLS certification required
- CWCN or WOCN certification required (Wound Care certification is mandatory)
- Minimum 1 year of experience in wound, ostomy, and continence care
- Previous charge experience required
- EPIC charting experience required
- Proficiency in wound treatments and dressings including VAC therapy, alginates, foams, hydrocolloids, hydrogels, mechanical debridement, and silver products
- Expertise in Braden scale assessment, wound staging (I-IV), neuropathic and venous ulcer management
- Experience with colostomy/ileostomy care and management, continence devices, and catheter management
- Strong skills in patient/family teaching, infection control, and isolation precautions
