Description
Start Date: September 14, 2026
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants
Schedule: Evening/Night shift, 12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM, Monday through Friday with every other weekend required. 4:1 patient ratio. 36 hours of orientation provided.
Highlights:
- Cardiac telemetry and progressive care unit (PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown) caring for 23-bed intermediate and general cardiology patient population
- Fast-paced, high-acuity environment with pre- and post-cardiac catheterization, post-MI, arrhythmia management, heart failure, and cardiac surgery patients
- Manage titratable vasoactive drips, arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes, and invasive cardiac monitoring
- Epic charting system with strong interdisciplinary support including IV teams, respiratory services, pharmacy, rapid response teams, and physical therapy
- Magnet-designated facility ranked among the nation's top heart hospitals with opportunities for advanced cardiac technologies including external pacemaker management
- Travel assignment with 21-24 weekend shifts per contract depending on length; two pre-approved time-off periods available
Requirements:
- Active Wisconsin RN license or valid compact state RN license
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (American Heart Association only)
- Minimum 3 years of RN experience; 2 years of recent acute care experience in cardiac telemetry and PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown required
- Previous travel nursing experience required
- Epic charting system experience required
- 4:1 patient ratio experience required
- Must successfully pass telemetry competency exam prior to start date with strict passing criteria (80% overall; 100% on lethal rhythms; zero errors on 3rd-degree heart blocks)
- Proficiency in cardiac drip management, dysrhythmia interpretation, arterial blood gas interpretation, blood product administration, post-cardiac catheterization care, and central/arterial line management
- Experience with BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, insulin drip titration, heparin protocols, and wound care/wound vac preferred
- Community hospital, LTAC, and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required
- Must reside 50 miles or more from facility (local candidates not accepted)
- Willingness to float to other units as needed
