Description
Start Date: September 28, 2026
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants
Schedule: Evening/Night shift, 12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM. Monday through Friday with every other weekend and some holidays required. 3:1 patient ratio. 36 hours of orientation provided.
Highlights:
- Work in a prestigious Magnet-designated academic medical center and Level I Trauma facility
- Provide specialized care on a 29-bed unit serving acute medical, progressive care, and thoracic patient populations
- Care for specialty populations including cystic fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension, and post-lung transplant patients
- Utilize Epic EMR system in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment
- Fast-paced unit combining general care (1:4 ratio) and IMC (1:2 ratio) patients with comprehensive interdisciplinary support
- 13-week travel assignment with opportunity to float between progressive care units as needed
Requirements:
- Active Wisconsin RN license or Compact State RN license
- BLS and ACLS certifications (American Heart Association only)
- Minimum 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years in PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown setting
- Required experience: Telemetry oncology, cardiac care, progressive care, ventilator management, and transplant care
- Previous travel nursing experience required
- Academic Level I or II Trauma Center experience required
- Epic charting system experience required
- Must pass telemetry competency exam with strict passing criteria prior to start (100% identification of lethal rhythms, no errors on 3rd degree heart blocks, 80% overall passing score)
- Strong proficiency in managing ventilated patients and post-transplant care (non-negotiable)
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
Key Skills:
- Cardiac telemetry and interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Ventilator management and non-invasive airway management
- Post-transplant care and immunosuppressed patient populations
- Hemodynamic monitoring and management of acutely ill patients with multiple comorbidities
- Chest tube management, arterial line management, central line care
- Titration of cardiac drips and insulin protocols
- BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, tracheostomy care
- Blood product administration and heparin protocols
