Description
Start Date: August 31, 2026
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants
Schedule: Night shift, 36 hours per week, 13-26 week assignments available. Weekend requirement of 4 shifts per 4-week period (flexible scheduling). Patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:4 for surgical stepdown, 1:5-6 for lower acuity patients.
Highlights:
- Comprehensive cardiac stepdown unit caring for complex cardiovascular and thoracic surgical patients
- Advanced cardiac procedures including post-CABG, TAVR, Watchman, cardiac catheterization, and electrophysiology
- Epic charting system with 24 hours of paid orientation
- Collaborative interdisciplinary team including respiratory therapy, rapid response, pharmacy, and specialty services
- Experience with cardiac drip titration, sheath removal, chest tube management, and dysrhythmia interpretation
- Will follow standard unit float rotation (not first to float)
Requirements:
- Active RN license (North Carolina or Compact state)
- Minimum 2 years of cardiac stepdown or telemetry experience required
- Travel nursing experience required unless 24+ months of cardiac experience
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start date
- Proficiency in cardiac telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, sheath removal, and cardiac drip management
- Experience with chest tubes, non-invasive airway management (CPAP/BiPAP), and post-cardiac catheterization care
- Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
- Availability for interview required prior to offer
Preferred Qualifications:
- Arterial line management experience
- Wound care and wound VAC therapy experience
- Previous charge nurse experience
- Epic charting experience
Patient Population:
- Adult and geriatric patients with cardiac and vascular diagnoses including atrial fibrillation, CHF, acute coronary syndrome, cardiomyopathy, endocarditis, and peripheral vascular disease
- Post-operative cardiac and thoracic surgical patients including CABG, valve replacements, TAVR, carotid endarterectomy, and vascular bypass procedures
- Post-procedural patients following cardiac catheterization, cardioversion, electrophysiology studies, and pacemaker placement
