Job Opportunity – Registered Nurse (RN) – Neuroscience Critical Care – Wisconsin

Start Date: September 14, 2026

Location: Madison, Wisconsin

Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants

Schedule: Evening/Night, 12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, every other weekend required, some holidays required. May be scheduled for contingent weekends if requesting off a scheduled weekend. 2:1 patient ratio.

Highlights:

  • Work on a 12-bed neuroscience critical care unit supporting both IMC and ICU level of care
  • Care for adult and geriatric patients with a variety of neurology, neurosurgical, and stroke conditions including ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, traumatic brain injuries, hydrocephalus, cerebral aneurysm, and other neurovascular diseases
  • Epic EMR system utilized; Epic experience required
  • Utilize strong critical thinking skills and provide interventions including vasoactive drips, hemodynamic monitoring, feeding tubes, drains, and frequent assessments

Requirements:

  • Wisconsin RN license or Compact RN license required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required (American Heart Association only)
  • Minimum 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years in the specialty
  • ICU experience required; Neurosurgery experience preferred
  • Epic charting system experience required
  • Must pass telemetry exam prior to start (strict passing criteria apply; see testing requirements)
  • Must be willing to work with both ICU and IMC patient populations
  • Floating to other units as needed is required
  • Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only)
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility

Skills and Competencies:

  • Accessing/Managing Ports, Arterial line management, Assist with Chest Tube Insertion/Removal
  • BiPAP/CPAP management, Blood Product Administration, Care of Ventilated Patient
  • Central line care/management, Continuous IV paralytics/Neuromuscular blockade, Continuous IV sedation
  • CVA/Acute Stroke management, Emergency Medications, External ventricular drain (EVD)
  • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), Hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun, ICP monitoring
  • Interpretation of Arterial Blood Gases (ABGs), Interpretation of dysrhythmias, IV insulin protocols
  • Lumbar drains, Management of dysrhythmias, Neuro Intensive Care Unit experience
  • PICC line management, Post Craniotomy, Post Neurosurgery management
  • Procedural Sedation Administration/Monitoring, Spinal cord injury experience
  • Starting and maintaining IVs, Suctioning (ETT, NT), Titrate Cardiac drips, Titrate Vasoactive drips
  • Traumatic Brain injury, Ventilator Management

Testing Requirements:

A telemetry exam will be required prior to start with the following passing criteria (must be met within two attempts):

Adult Exam:

  • 100% identification of lethal rhythms: Ventricular fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, asystole
  • No incorrect answers on questions regarding 3rd degree heart blocks (1 incorrect answer will cause failure)
  • Passing score of 80% or higher

Pediatric Exam:

  • 100% identification of: Ventricular fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, asystole, and sinus bradycardia
  • Passing score of 80% or higher

If the second attempt is failed, a certificate of completion of a cardiac interpretation review course must be submitted before a third attempt. If not passed after three attempts, the assignment will be cancelled.
