Description
Start Date: September 8, 2026
Location: North Carolina
Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants
Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, 36 or 48 hours per week; every other weekend required; patient ratios 1:6-7
Highlights:
- Specialized trauma unit caring for patients with severe orthopedic injuries, traumatic brain injuries, spine injuries, and neurological trauma
- Advanced skill development including heparin drips, blood product administration, central line management, chest tubes, and wound care
- Epic charting system with comprehensive 28-hour orientation (12 hours unit-specific, 16 hours organizational education)
- Collaborative interdisciplinary support including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, rapid response teams, and pharmacy
- First-time travelers accepted; local candidates welcome
- Opportunities to work with external fixators, chest tubes, and advanced monitoring equipment
Requirements:
- Active RN license (North Carolina or Compact state license)
- Minimum 2 years of recent experience (within last 5 years) in acute care nursing
- BLS certification required; ACLS strongly preferred
- Epic documentation experience required
- Must be comfortable with patient ratios of 1:6-7
- Proficiency in heparin drips, PCA management, colostomy care, feeding tube care and management, blood product administration
- Competency in central line care/management, peripheral line care/management, phlebotomy, PICC line management, IV starts
- Experience with dysrhythmia management, oxygen protocol management, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions
- Knowledge of traumatic brain injury care, ortho trauma, surgical drains, chest tubes, tracheostomy management, and wound care
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start date
- Willingness to float to similar units and alternate care locations as needed
- Availability to work as part of Storm Team/Hurricane Team during catastrophic events if required
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions only)
Preferred Qualifications:
- ACLS certification
- Experience with interpretation of dysrhythmias, pre/post hemodialysis management, management of drips
- CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, and spinal cord injury experience
