Description
Start Date: November 16, 2026
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants
Schedule: 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend coverage required. Patient ratio of 1:6. Float pool assignment across four inpatient psychiatric units.
Highlights:
- Work with diverse psychiatric patient populations including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, suicidal ideation, major depressive disorder, and dementia with behavioral disturbance
- Float pool position covering four inpatient psychiatric units with varying acuity levels (18-24 bed units) serving adults, young adults, and geriatric populations
- Epic EMR system utilized facility-wide
- Comprehensive interdisciplinary support including physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, social services, and rapid response teams
- Utilize trauma-informed care, de-escalation techniques, and crisis intervention protocols to manage patient safety
- 36 hours of orientation provided; first-time travelers welcome with appropriate experience
Requirements:
- Active RN license (Compact or Ohio state license required at time of submission)
- Minimum 2 years of recent behavioral health or psychiatric nursing experience required
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) and aegis training required or must be obtained
- Epic charting system experience required
- Experience with 1:6 patient ratios preferred
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Nursing education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
- 2 professional references required (at least one must be from a manager/director or formal leadership role)
Key Skills & Competencies:
- Proficiency with psychiatric medications including antipsychotics, antidepressants, antianxiety agents, and mood stabilizers
- Strong de-escalation and behavior management techniques
- Experience with seclusion protocols, physical hold protocols, and managing assaultive behavior
- Crisis intervention and trauma-informed care approaches
- Medical/psych skills including IV starts and maintenance, blood glucose monitoring, wound care, Foley catheter management, feeding tube care, and oxygen administration
- Ability to obtain 12-lead EKG/ECG and interpret lab values
- Experience working on locked psychiatric units in an inpatient setting
Compliance & Onboarding:
- Strict compliance deadline: Tuesday prior to start date with no exceptions
- Ohio fingerprinting process must be completed immediately upon contract signing – this is time-sensitive and required for all traveling staff
- Flu vaccination required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required
- Must be available for full contract duration; any time-off requests must be submitted upfront and built into contract
