- Position: Travel Cardiac Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) / Telemetry RN
- Location: Lynchburg, VA 24501 — Central Virginia, Blue Ridge Mountains
- Assignment Type: Travel Contract (On-Site, W2 travel nurse)
- Unit: LAC Resource Team – Cardiac Intermediate Care (CIMU) / Intermediate Care Unit
- Start Date: February 9, 2026
- End Date: May 9, 2026
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks
- Shift: 12-hour nights (Telemetry shifts)
- Average Hours per Week: 36
- Estimated Weekly Pay: $1910 - $2010
- Float Requirement: No
- Local Travel Restriction: No local travelers within 60 miles will be accepted
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia or Compact State (must be active by start)
- Minimum 2 years recent experience in cardiac stepdown/telemetry or intermediate care
- Prior travel nursing experience required (travel nurse, travel RN)
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) required
- Strong arrhythmia recognition and rhythm strip interpretation skills (Telemetry RN skills)
- Proficiency with Cerner EMR preferred
- Ability to provide complete work history, explain gaps over 90 days, and submit a nursing skills checklist
- All requested time off must be submitted at the time of application
- Charge nurse responsibilities may be required; appropriate training and pay differential provided
- Approved declinations for COVID/Flu vaccinations accepted
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to cardiac stepdown and telemetry patients in an intermediate care setting
- Perform focused cardiac assessments, interpret rhythm strips, and promptly respond to changes in patient condition
- Monitor and manage telemetry, remote monitoring systems, and other cardiac monitoring devices
- Operate and troubleshoot clinical equipment including vital signs machines, glucometers, SCDs, bladder scanner, vein finder, remote telemetry, wound VACs, IV pumps, pulse oximeters, chest tubes, tube feeding pumps (Kangaroo), and oxygen delivery devices
- Administer medications and manage complex cardiac therapies per facility protocols (including IV drips, antiarrhythmics, and vasoactive agents)
- Serve as charge nurse when assigned—coordinate patient assignments, unit workflow, and multidisciplinary communication
- Mentor and precept students and new hires, contributing to a supportive teaching hospital culture
- Accurately document patient care in the EMR and maintain compliance with facility policies and infection control standards
