- Duration: 13 weeks
- Shift: Day shifts: 4x10-hour (07:00–17:30) or 2x10-hour + 2x8-hour (Mon–Fri, 36–40 hrs/week)
- Estimated Weekly Salary: $2,870–$3,020
- Patient Population: Adults – primarily heart failure and VAD/LVAD patients (HeartMate 3, HeartMate II, BrioVAD, HeartWare HVAD)
- Orientation: 24 hours (completed onsite)
Required Qualifications
- Active Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license required (must be in hand at time of submission; not Compact)
- Minimum 3 years RN experience; 2 years cardiac RN experience may be considered for highly qualified VAD/LVAD nurses
- Demonstrated LVAD/VAD device experience and strong triage skills (VAD nurse / LVAD nurse experience)
- Epic EMR experience required
- BLS certification required; VAD-C certification preferred
- Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
- Two manager/supervisor references required
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as clinical expert and Charge RN resource for LVAD/VAD equipment, alarms, troubleshooting, and device management in clinic and procedural/OR settings
- Educate staff, patients, and caregivers on VAD devices (HeartMate 3, HeartMate II, BrioVAD, HeartWare HVAD) and home device care
- Coordinate and conduct outpatient heart failure and VAD clinic visits, device downloads, and equipment integrity checks (~80% outpatient)
- Provide routine and urgent telehealth care, manage emergency patient calls, and independently triage via call center and patient portal
- Escalate device issues to manufacturers and maintain current knowledge of VAD/LVAD technology and best practices
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary cardiac teams (cardiology, advanced heart failure, cardiothoracic surgery, case management) to ensure safe, high-quality cardiac care
- Support procedural area coverage as needed for device-related cases
