Required Qualifications & Certifications — RN (PCU / Neuro)
- Current RN license in Ohio or a valid Compact RN license (Registered Nurse)
- BLS and ACLS from AHA required
- NIHSS certification required (stroke/neurology competency)
- Dysrhythmia Exam required (study guide available)
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience; 6 months acute care hospital experience preferred
- Neuro/stroke experience preferred (PCU nurse, neuro stepdown nurse, stroke nurse)
- EPIC EHR training and Critical Care Course preferred (experience with EPIC advantageous)
Key Responsibilities — PCU Nurse / Neuro Stepdown RN
- Perform initial and ongoing patient assessments, analyze clinical data, and develop individualized care plans
- Administer medications and IV therapies safely and in accordance with facility policies
- Provide hemodynamic monitoring and ongoing assessment for patients with advanced neuro conditions
- Manage care for patients with multi-system organ failure, trauma, and stroke-related complications
- Perform procedures and monitor devices: chest tubes, hemodynamic lines, and conscious sedation management
- Respond to rapidly changing patient conditions and emergencies with clinical confidence (critical care skills)
- Coordinate interdisciplinary care and serve as primary point of contact for families and the care team
- Advocate for patient safety, participate in quality improvement initiatives, and apply evidence-based practice
- Maintain professionalism, cultural sensitivity, and effective communication at all times
