- Duration: 13 weeks
- Shift: Nights, 3 x 12-hour shifts (7:00pm – 7:00am)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Estimated Weekly Pay: $1,630 – $1,750 (competitive travel respiratory therapist pay)
- Charting: EPIC (Electronic Health Record)
- Weekend/Holiday: Weekend and holiday coverage required (at least 1 holiday per contract)
Job Requirements / Qualifications
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) — CRT not accepted
- Minimum 1 year recent critical care experience as an RRT in a high-volume ER or Level I Trauma Center (adult critical care/ICU experience preferred)
- Active or pending Virginia Respiratory Care Practitioner license (temporary authorization available for out-of-state candidates)
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- Proficiency with EPIC charting system
- COVID-19 and seasonal flu vaccinations required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
- Travel experience preferred; first-time travel respiratory therapists are welcome
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide advanced respiratory care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients in critical care, ER, and ICU settings
- Manage mechanical ventilation and ventilator support (ventilator management, weaning, troubleshooting high-pressure alarms; experience with BiPAP, CPAP, HFNC, Optiflow)
- Operate advanced respiratory devices including Servo I/U, V-60 BiPAP, Optiflow, iNOvent, and LTV1200
- Interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and implement appropriate respiratory interventions
- Perform airway management: intubation support, extubation, oral/nasal airway placement, suctioning, sputum collection, and tracheostomy care
- Administer aerosol and medication delivery systems (mask, trach, MDI, Medihaler) and deliver respiratory medications (e.g., albuterol, ipratropium, combivent, inhaled steroids, racemic epinephrine, inhaled Flolan)
- Set up and manage oxygen therapy and nebulizer systems (handheld, T-piece, trach collar, ultrasonic nebulizers)
- Participate in Assess and Treat protocols and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (physicians, nurses, respiratory therapy colleagues)
- Float to other units within scope of practice as needed to support hospital staffing
