Patient Care Coordinator (RN) travel nursing job in Sitka, Alaska — 13-week travel contract. Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and an active Alaska RN license. - Hours / Shift: 36 hours per week (guaranteed hours may be up to 40); shift schedule will be discussed during the interview
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,700 - $2,840
Top Qualifications (Must Have)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required
- Active Alaska Registered Nurse (RN) license required at time of submission
- Minimum 8 years of clinical nursing experience, including at least 3 years in chart review, risk management, utilization review, or related quality/case management roles
- Case Management certification (NCQA, CCMC or similar) preferred
- Flu vaccine required
- Applicants must live at least 50 miles away from the facility (travel RN requirement)
Preferred Skills and Knowledge
- Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and clinical disease concepts
- Knowledge of ICD-9/ICD-10 and CPT coding and familiarity with CMS regulations
- Strong written and oral communication and organizational skills
- Experience with utilization management (UM), case management (CM), discharge planning (DCP), and clinical utilization review
- Ability to collaborate with providers, leadership, and interdisciplinary teams
Key Responsibilities
- Manage patient progression of care and promote evidence-based protocols to expedite care delivery for admitted patients
- Provide direct patient care services focused on timely and appropriate discharges and care coordination
- Review and evaluate patient records to monitor clinical progress and appropriateness of care
- Perform continuing review of hospitalizations to assess necessity, length of stay, and quality of care
- Complete utilization management and review functions for Purchased/Referred Care Services and other payer requests
- Obtain and review medical reports, treatment plans, and documentation as requested by payers or regulatory agencies
- Validate physician orders, report progress, and document unusual occurrences in the medical record
- Collaborate with leadership, clinical care teams, and physicians to ensure appropriate and cost-effective healthcare services
- Assess new admissions, develop individualized care plans, and coordinate interdisciplinary care
- Provide patients and families with information about healthcare benefits, coverage, and discharge resources
- Maintain the Utilization Review Plan in collaboration with staff and the Medical Director
- Facilitate educational programs and advise physicians/departments on regulations affecting UM/CM/DCP
- Coordinate patient care departments to ensure treatment plans meet hospital and payer criteria
- Ensure documentation supports UM functions and communicate with payers within required timeframes
- Prepare notification letters, process appeals of denials, respond to complaints, and maintain utilization review and appeal logs
- Support clinical improvement activities with quality review and perform tumor registry functions as needed
- Other duties as assigned
