• Shift: 12-hour nights, typically 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
• Weekend and Holiday Coverage: Typically every other weekend and every other holiday
• Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:5, with ratios up to 1:7 as needed
• Unit Resources: Patient care technicians, charge nurse or house supervisor support, respiratory therapy, and monitor technicians
• Charting System: Epic
• Orientation: One department-specific orientation shift
• Call Requirement: No scheduled call or standby requirement

Medical-Surgical RN Job Requirements

• At least 2 years of recent Medical-Surgical nursing experience
• Current Registered Nurse license in Illinois, or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
• Recent Epic charting experience
• Strong assessment, prioritization, communication, and clinical decision-making skills
• Ability to work 12-hour night shifts and participate in the typical weekend and holiday rotation
• Ability to provide nursing care in an acute-care setting and collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary team

Travel RN Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult Medical-Surgical patients throughout each shift
• Care for patients with diagnoses such as NSTEMI, COPD, pneumonia, sepsis, and acute kidney injury
• Perform focused and comprehensive patient assessments, administer medications, and evaluate responses to treatment
• Monitor patients using telemetry and review and sign off on rhythm strips as required
• Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly communicate concerns to the provider and care team
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in Epic
• Coordinate care with providers, patient care technicians, respiratory therapy, and other members of the interdisciplinary team
• Promote patient safety, education, comfort, and continuity of care
• Float to other departments only when appropriate to the nurse’s verified level of experience
