Opportunity:
PCU/IMC Float
Job Details:
• Night shift position working 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• 6-9 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule
• May be asked to participate in holiday rotation
• Rare on-call or standby requirement for low census situations
• No home base facility - must float within Zone 1 covering a 60-mile radius around Colorado Springs, CO
• Float facilities include: Penrose Hospital, St. Francis Medical Center, St. Francis InterQuest, St. Mary Corwin, and St. Thomas More
• Schedules released 4-6 weeks in advance; may be assigned to a single facility for the week or receive a just-in-time assignment 1-2 hours before shift start
• May be asked to float into any acuity level including ICU (low acuity holds), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3-4 dependent on acuity
• Nurse aides available on unit
• Float pool covers multiple PCU/IMC units including General, Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Ortho, Trauma, ED Obs, and more
• Common patient population includes adults and geriatrics with diagnoses such as Cardiac, Neuro, Ortho, Oncology, Renal, Urology post-surgical, General Surgery, Gynecology, Psych/Detox, ENT, and General Medicine
• Must be comfortable titrating and managing cardiac drips, insulin, Ativan, and heparin
• Common drips include Dopamine, Dobutamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Ativan, Insulin, and Heparin
• RT equipment including vents, CPAP, and BiPap present on unit
• Charting system: Epic; prior Epic experience preferred
• Minimum 2 years of PCU/IMC experience required; prior neuro experience preferred
• Must have experience with cardiac drips, insulin, and Ativan
• 1-2 days of orientation with a preceptor provided
• All time off requests must be submitted prior to starting assignment
• Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment or 3 shifts for shorter assignments
• Any color scrubs permitted
• Required certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), NIHSS
• BSN not required; valid state license required for submission
