Opportunity:

RN - Med/Surg

Job Details:

• 12-hour day shifts
• 4 total weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday) per 4-week schedule period
• Holiday shifts required based on unit coverage needs
• Self-scheduling made 4 weeks at a time
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5
• Must have Level 1 Trauma experience
• Must pass dysrhythmia exam prior to accepting contract (2 attempts allowed)
• Telemetry experience preferred as floating to Tele unit is required
• Must have recent med/surg experience; charge nurse experience preferred
• First-time travelers will not be considered
• Common patient diagnoses include post-op, sepsis, pneumonia, COPD, diabetes, and infection
• Heparin drip titration required; no cardiac drips
• No PCTs on unit; resource RN and charge RN support available
• Respiratory therapy will be assigned to the unit
• House Supervisor available 24/7; charge nurse out of count; Manager available Monday through Friday
• Must complete SIMs Lab for Foley catheter insertion and port-a-cath insertion (pass/fail)
• Travelers are first to float to other med/surg/tele areas; ICU RNs float at a 1:3 ratio
• 2 orientation shifts provided with a preceptor
• Charting system: Cerner
• Required certification: BLS
• Must wear Navy Blue scrubs
• Must have natural hair color, no facial piercings
• Men must be clean shaven for fit test
• Must provide own vehicle for travel
• Pass/fail exam on Day 1 of orientation
• 50-mile radius rule applies; no local rates

This acute care facility is a Level 1 Trauma center featuring 22 private rooms on the med/surg unit. The facility operates with a strong support structure including 24/7 house supervision and a dedicated resource RN model in lieu of PCTs. The organization maintains high clinical standards through competency-based evaluations including SIMs Lab training for key nursing skills such as Foley catheter insertion and port-a-cath care, reflecting their commitment to patient safety and nursing excellence.
