Opportunity:
RN - ER/ED Float
Job Details:
• 12-hour night shifts required
• Every other weekend schedule
• Every other holiday requirement
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Float position covering Zone 1 facilities within a 60-mile radius of Colorado Springs, CO
• Facilities include Penrose Hospital, St. Francis Medical Center, St. Francis InterQuest, St. Mary Corwin, and St. Thomas More
• Schedules released 4-6 weeks in advance; may be assigned to a single facility for the week or placed via Just-In-Time (JIT) assignment 1-2 hours before shift start
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5 based on acuity
• Average patient volume ranges from 40-168 patients per day depending on location
• Common diagnoses include abdominal pain, diabetes, NSTEMI, pneumonia, trauma, stroke, and hypertension
• Responsible for reading and interpreting telemetry strips independently (no monitor techs available)
• Will be trained to perform Point of Care lab testing
• Respiratory therapy available 24/7 on site
• Charge nurse takes patient assignments
• Techs available to support unit secretary work, assist nurses on the floor, and assist in triage
• Must wear navy blue scrubs
• 2-3 days of unit/department-specific orientation required; must be in state for week of orientation
• Charting system: EPIC
• Must have a minimum of 2 years of emergency department experience
• Required certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), PALS (AHA), NIHSS, TNCC
• BSN not required
• Cannot miss more than 3 shifts during a 13-week contract
• Must submit a 2-week notice to avoid back-out penalty fee
Facility:
This float zone covers multiple acute care emergency departments across a 60-mile radius, ranging from Trauma Level 3 and Level 4 facilities to the majority being STEMI and Stroke receiving centers. The facilities feature mixed ER hold arrangements, respiratory therapy available around the clock, and tech support to assist nursing staff. Each location treats a diverse patient population with varying daily volumes, providing a dynamic and well-supported environment for experienced emergency department nurses.
