Opportunity:

RN - Stepdown

Job Details:

• Work 12-hour shifts from 6:45 AM to 6:45 PM or 6:45 PM to 6:45 AM
• Every other weekend requirement
• Must be flexible and work holidays and days around holidays as needed
• Cancellation policy: 12 hours every 2 weeks
• 2 years of stepdown experience in an acute care setting required
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 on a 44-bed cardiac stepdown unit
• Unit covers cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgery patients as well as smaller procedures, drips, and CHF patients
• Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips using Phillips monitors
• Experience managing drips required, including Cardizem (titrated), amiodarone, dobutamine, dopamine renal dose, Lasix, Bumex, heparin, Primacor, and Vaprosol
• Experience with BiPap, CPAP, Vapotherm, and high flow oxygen required (no full vents)
• Common diagnoses include post-op CABG, cardiovascular surgery, thoracotomy, VATS, EVARS, AAA repairs, carotid endarterectomies, stents, pacemakers, ablations, AICD, CHF, AFib with RVR, and chest tubes
• Preferred ability to pull pacer wires; orientation will be provided if unable
• May float to ICU for stepdown-level patients; providers with ICU experience may take ICU-level patients
• If unable to take ICU-level patients, may be asked to task in the ICU
• Floor-specific orientation consists of 3 shifts
• Charting system: MEDITECH
• Scrub color: Caribbean Blue
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS (AHA), NIHSS preferred
• Dress code: Natural colored hair required, no fake nails or shellac, no facial piercings, no visible tattoos

Facility:

This acute care facility operates a dedicated cardiac stepdown unit with 44 beds, including semiprivate rooms, providing specialized care for cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgery patients. The facility offers comprehensive 24/7 support services including in-house hospitalist and intensivist coverage, a PICC team, respiratory therapy, and pharmacy services. The organization maintains a fast-paced environment with high patient turnover, averaging 32-38 patients per census and up to 12-16 discharges and admissions per shift on busy days.
