Job Opportunity: Medical Telemetry RN (Tower 5) - Phoenix, Arizona
Position Overview
- Unit: Medical Telemetry (Tower 5)
- Beds: 30
- Patient Acuity: High acuity patients with approximately 1/3 patient turnover per day
- Common Diagnoses: Gynecological surgeries, pre-liver transplant, end-stage renal disease (ESRD), cellulitis, pneumonia, diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)
- Shift: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm), including nights
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (4 total weekend shifts per 4 weeks)
- Holiday Requirement: Work 2 out of 4 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year's)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
- Charge Nurse: Yes, with no patient assignment
- Nurse Aides: 2 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs)
- Floating: May float to any MedSurg or Tele floor
- Orientation: 2 days floor-specific orientation
Required Experience & Certifications
- Minimum 2 years of core experience in the specialty being submitted
- Level 1 Trauma experience required
- Previous travel experience required for ED or Neuro ICU
- Cerner EMR experience required (specifically for ED)
- Must have IV experience
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS
- Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam required 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts)
- Pass/fail Day 1 SIMs Lab (Foley catheter insertion & central line dressing changes) required; competency in sterile technique is mandatory
- Must pass a pass/fail exam on Day 1 of orientation
Additional Requirements & Notes
- No facial piercings and only natural hair colors allowed
- Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Candidates cannot hold multiple contracts simultaneously within this system
- Must have own vehicle if part of a travel team
- Must be gone from CommonSpirit as permanent staff for 12 months to be eligible for travel assignment
- 50-mile radius rule applies for candidate location
- Teaching hospital environment; nurses may have nursing students
- High acuity patient care with ventilators (Bipap, Cpap) requiring patient independence
- Telemetry monitoring with Phillips system; RNs must read EKGs
- IV Team (SWAT RN) available for difficult IV sticks
- Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
- Scrub color: Navy
Contract Length
- Minimum contract length: 13 weeks
This position is ideal for experienced telemetry RNs with strong critical care skills, comfortable working in a high-acuity, teaching hospital environment, and able to meet strict certification and competency requirements.
