Cardiac Telemetry Nurse - Tower 7 (Phoenix, AZ)
Facility Overview
- Located in Phoenix, AZ
- 607-bed tertiary care teaching hospital
- Nationally recognized for quality care, medical education, and research
- Specialties include lung, liver, and kidney transplant
- Affiliated with Barrow Neuro Institute (world’s #1 neuro institute)
- Teaching hospital environment; nursing students may be present
Unit Details
- Unit: Cardiac Telemetry - Tower 7
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3 or 1:4
- Patient types: Post-op cardiovascular surgery patients (CABG, MVR, STEMI, HF, Fundoplication, VATS Decordication, vascular repair)
- Telemetry monitors: GE tele packs; tele techs monitor off-unit; RNs interpret rhythms
- Respiratory equipment: CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- Charge nurse/resource nurse typically does not take patient assignments
- Patient care techs: 1 PCT per 16 beds
Job Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of core experience in specialty submitted
- Level 1 trauma experience required
- Teaching hospital experience required
- Previous travel experience required for ED, Neuro ICU
- Cerner EMR experience required for ED
- Must have own vehicle if on travel team
- No facial piercings and only natural hair colors allowed
- Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Must pass Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam (max 2 attempts) prior to acceptance
- Must pass Day 1 pass/fail SIMs Lab (skills include Foley catheter insertion, central line dressing changes, lifts, restraints, wound care)
- BLS certification required
- Experience with post-op cardiovascular surgery patients highly recommended but not required
- RNs required to titrate drips (Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone)
Orientation & Scheduling
- Contract length: 13 weeks minimum
- Weekly orientations on Mondays (except holidays)
- 2-day unit-specific orientation
- 12-hour night shifts
- Self-scheduling allowed with balanced shifts
- Weekend requirement: 3 weekend shifts per 4-week block
- Holiday shifts required (2 out of 4 major holidays)
- No call or standby requirement
- Floating to other applicable areas as needed
- Scrub color: Navy blue (scrubs not provided)
- Parking: Assigned parking with shuttle to facility (garage for night shift)
Additional Notes
- Candidates cannot work multiple contracts simultaneously within this system
- Must have been off CommonSpirit as permanent staff for 12 months to qualify for travel assignment
- 50-mile radius rule applies (driver’s license is source of truth)
- Pre-screening by Medical Solutions; no second interview if clinical approves
- Strict sterile field maintenance expected during SIMs Lab and clinical practice
