Location

Job Description

• Registered Nurses needed to float between PCU (Progressive Care Unit), Telemetry, and Medical-Surgical units.
• Must be comfortable caring for inpatients, including those holding in the Emergency Department.
• Units include East and West campuses with a variety of patient acuity levels.

Experience & Certifications Required

• Minimum 2 years experience in Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing.
• At least 1 year experience in PCU setting.
• Current state RN license.
• ACLS and BLS certifications required.
• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam with a minimum score of 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing.

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• Geriatric patients.
• Orthopedic patients.
• Post-procedural cardiac patients (post MI, post cardiac cath, CABG post-op days 3-4).
• Strong cath lab program; care includes groin site management in stepdown units.

Unit Details

• Float Pool covers MedSurg, Telemetry, and PCU across two campuses.
• East Campus includes ICU and stepdown patients; West Campus has stepdown and MedTele units.
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • PCU: 1:4
  • MedSurg/Telemetry: 1:5-6
• Charge nurses present on each unit but do not take patient assignments.
• Nurse aides are utilized on all units.
• Respiratory equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and heated high flow oxygen in PCU and MedSurg.

Clinical Skills & Responsibilities

• RNs must be able to titrate drips including Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin.
• Nurses must be able to interpret cardiac monitor strips; monitor techs support PCU and MedSurg Tele units.

Scheduling & Shifts

• 12-hour shifts, 7am-7pm (AM and PM).
• Schedule published 6 weeks in advance, covering 4 weeks at a time.
• Night shift may allow block scheduling.
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend.
• Holiday coverage included in permanent staff rotation.
• No call or standby requirements.
• Assignments communicated by text message 2 hours before shift start.
• Travel time between campuses approximately 20-25 minutes.
• Scrub color currently solid professional colors; transitioning to navy scrubs per upcoming dress code.

Orientation

• 8-hour general hospital orientation day.
• 12-hour orientation shifts on West MedTele and PCU units.
• East campus orientation similar but smaller and easier to navigate.

Additional Notes

• Radius rule: candidates must live within 50 miles.
• Candidates cannot have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI or Dignity) within the past year.
