Registered Nurse - Neuro Stepdown Unit

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Stepdown Neuro at a major hospital campus
  • Shift: Night shift (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Experience Required:
    • Minimum 18 months of permanent experience in the specialty prior to travel assignments
    • Minimum 18 months recent Neuro Stepdown experience (travel experience accepted)
    • PCU/Progressive Care experience preferred but not required
  • Licensure:
    • Must have a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license in hand
  • Certifications Required:
    • AHA BLS & ACLS
    • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Holiday Work: Must work at least every other holiday
  • Testing:
    • ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate pass required during orientation
  • Timekeeping: Hours submitted via Qualivis – Lotus system

Required Credentials & Compliance

Background Checks

  • Comprehensive background check including FCRA compliant 7-year search
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting within 48 hours of contract signing, valid within 12 months and updated annually
  • Fingerprints must be completed under code 4723.09 (Nursing)
  • Facility will conduct additional fingerprinting onsite

Certifications

  • ACLS: AHA Instructor or Provider (RQI acceptable)
  • BLS: AHA Instructor or Provider (RQI acceptable)
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Must be from AHA, Apex, AACME, or Bluecloud (Healthstream certs not accepted)
  • Pass/Fail Testing: ECG and medication dosing tests during orientation (SafeMedicate)
  • Other Certifications: PALS, NRP, TNCC, CHEMO, Tech Certs as applicable/preferred
  • Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual and pass/fail testing required

Licensure Verification

  • Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification within 30 days of start

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (required for new candidates signing after 4/11/2025)
  • Fit mask test (3M N95 1860 or 1870+) within 12 months, updated annually
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (annual)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster if needed
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster if needed
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
  • Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant tests not accepted)

Onboarding & Orientation

  • Completion of online training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome)
  • Modules include facility-specific training and SafeMedicate prep materials
  • Modules must be completed fully (video and test) before clearance to start
  • Orientation includes pass/fail ECG and medication dosing tests
  • Candidates returning with less than 6 months gap may have some orientation requirements waived

Employment History & References

  • Application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years in acute care and similar specialty
  • Two professional references required from employment within the past year (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director)
  • Co-worker references are not accepted

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must carry a government-issued photo ID during assignment
  • Must be prepared to complete fingerprinting both through agency and onsite at the facility
  • Candidates with latex allergies should notify to ensure availability of latex-free gloves
  • Candidates must be aware of strict compliance with all credentialing, health, and training requirements prior to start

This position is ideal for experienced Neuro Stepdown RNs with current Ohio or compact state licensure, who are comfortable working night shifts and meeting rigorous credentialing and health compliance standards.
