Registered Nurse (MS Float Pool RN) - Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7 PM - 7:30 AM), 36 hours/week
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
- Holiday Rotation: Required
- On Call: Not required
- Float Assignments: Med Surg floors at Main hospital and Ashley River tower
- Patient Ratios: May vary depending on unit assigned
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
- First-time Travelers: Accepted
- Licensure: South Carolina RN License or Multi-State/Compact RN License required
- Certifications Required: Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Block Schedule: Possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
- Local Radius: 60 miles
- Locals Accepted: Yes, on a case-by-case basis
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks

Required Credentials & Documentation
Licensure & Verification
- South Carolina RN license or Compact license with primary source verification
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs
- Licensure hits must be approved by facility
- Temporary "walk-through" licensure process available for eligible candidates (24-48 business hours)
Certifications
- BLS: Required for all clinical staff (AHA or ARC accepted)
- ACLS: Required for specific units (Adult Critical Care, Labor & Delivery, Cath Lab, ER, ICU, Interventional Radiology, PACU, PCU, PreOp, Observation Unit)
- PALS: Required for Pediatric units except Pediatric OR; preferred for Pediatric OR
- NRP: Required for applicable neonatal roles (AHA/AAP only)
- TNCC: Required as applicable; not required for ER RNs
- CHEMO: Required only for Oncology Hospital Unit (specific unit)
- EFM: AWHONN or NCC accepted
- IV Certification: Required for select LPNs (if applicable)
- NIH Stroke Certification: Required for ER and as applicable
- Certifications must be current (not expiring within 30 days of start)
Background Checks
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Required searches: SSN Trace, County, Statewide, Sex Offender Registry, National Criminal, FACIS 3
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education verification required; diploma/transcripts accepted as placeholders if needed
- South Carolina Medicaid Excluded Providers check required for sub vendors
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit test for N95 mask (O&M Halyard FLUIDSHIELD or 3M Aura 1870+) within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form required
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
- Annual TB questionnaire required
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series required; boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30) or medical/religious exemption; declinations not accepted
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
Competency & Testing
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required as applicable
- Color blindness testing required prior to start
- Competency exams required; Pediatric OR prefers pediatric-specific exams but accepts regular if no pediatric experience
Facility Specific Requirements
- First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay modules must be completed prior to start (approx. 2-6 hours depending on location)
- Clear, passport-style badge photo required before start
- Sterile Processing Techs require additional physical assessment and lab panels
- Radiation badges required for certain specialties (CVOR, Cath Lab, Radiation Oncology, etc.)
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Employment application must include all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
- Work history verification of last 3 clinical employers required
Additional Notes
- Travelers should be aware of potential emergency assignments during hurricane season (June-November)
- Facility allows calling off 1 shift every 2 weeks
- Block scheduling possible with manager approval
- Locals may be considered under specific conditions
This position offers an opportunity to work in a Level I Trauma Center with a teaching and Magnet-recognized hospital system, providing a dynamic and supportive environment for experienced RNs.
