Registered Nurse (Med/Surg Telemetry) - Cleveland, Ohio

Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Position at a major hospital campus in Cleveland, Ohio.
  • Med/Surg Telemetry Registered Nurse role.
  • Shift: 3x12-hour shifts only (rotating day/night shifts, 7pm-7:30am and 7am-7:30pm). Shift rotation may be required based on hospital needs.
  • Must work at least every other holiday.
  • Orientation includes ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate testing; passing scores required.

Requirements

  • Minimum 18 months recent Med/Surg Telemetry experience.
  • Minimum 18 months permanent experience in the specialty prior to travel assignment.
  • Must hold a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license.
  • Certifications required: AHA BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
  • Pass/Fail testing on ECG and medication dosing during orientation.
  • Must complete unit-specific competency exams annually.
  • Must complete facility-specific online training modules prior to start.
  • Must carry a government-issued photo ID while on assignment.

Certifications & Competencies

  • Required Certifications:
    • ACLS (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable)
    • BLS (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable)
    • NIH Stroke Certification (AHA, Apex, AACME, or Bluecloud only)
  • Preferred but not required:
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • Annual acknowledgment of safety manual and pass/fail testing required.
  • State license verification and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start.
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing after 4/11/2025).
  • Fit mask test (3M N95 1860 or 1870) within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Tdap vaccine every 10 years (religious/medical exemptions reviewed case-by-case; declinations not accepted).
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Required immunizations or positive titers for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Annual flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted).
  • Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
  • Eye exam required within 1 year of start for new candidates (not required for return candidates with less than 40-day gap).

Background & Compliance

  • Background check required prior to start; must be updated annually or after breaks in service of 2+ months.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start, updated annually.
    • Fingerprints must be completed under nursing code 4723.09.
    • Facility will conduct additional fingerprinting onsite.
    • Candidates may start with fingerprint results pending if prints are completed prior to start.
  • Education verification required for all candidates.
  • Two professional references required from employment within one year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).

Orientation & Training

  • Completion of facility-specific online training modules is mandatory before clearance to start.
  • Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome.
  • Candidates cannot skip training videos before tests.
  • Onboarding and module completion typically take multiple days.
  • SafeMedicate preparation materials provided for orientation testing.
  • Candidates returning after a break longer than 6 months must re-complete modules.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must have at least 3 years of prior work history, including 2 years in acute care and similar specialty.
  • Must complete annual skills checklist.
  • Must comply with all facility-specific documentation and competency requirements.
  • Must be prepared to work variable shifts if operational needs require.

This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg Telemetry RNs licensed in Ohio or compact states, who are comfortable with rotating 12-hour shifts and meeting comprehensive credentialing and compliance requirements.
