Travel RN Step Down Nurse
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Facility: Lake West Medical Center, University Hospitals
Job Overview
- Provide safe, efficient, age-specific nursing care to patients and families using the nursing process.
- Deliver relationship-based nursing care with technical skills to ensure safe practice and positive outcomes.
- Communicate clearly and collaborate effectively to optimize patient care and clinical operations.
- Display leadership to influence clinical and operational outcomes.
- RN duties as assigned.
- Nurse/Patient Ratio: 1:5 or 1:6.
- Floating required across inpatient areas at UH Lake West Medical Center (SDU, MCU, West Medical, West Surgical, ED for boarded patients) and UH Tripoint Medical Center (TP ST, TP MT, TP CCU, ED for boarded patients).
- Contract length: 13 weeks.
Required Certifications & Licenses
- BLS (American Heart Association only)
- ACLS (American Heart Association only)
- NIHSS Certification
- Valid permanent RN license (no temporary licenses accepted)
Required Health & Immunization Credentials
- COVID-19 Vaccine (preferred, not required)
- MMR: Positive titers within last 15 years; booster protocol applies if low titer.
- Varicella: Positive titers within last 15 years; booster protocol applies if low titer.
- Hepatitis B: Proof of full series, partial series with declination, or positive titers within 15 years.
- Tdap: Proof of vaccination within past 10 years (declinations not accepted).
- Influenza Vaccine: Required during flu season (Oct-Mar) or approved medical/religious exemption.
- 2-Step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot): Negative results within last 6 months; annual requirement.
- Fit Test: Completed within 1 year prior to start; specific approved respirators listed.
- Physical/Health Statement: Pre-employment physical exam within 1 year stating ability to work without restrictions.
- Positive PPD: Negative chest X-ray within 5 years and current TB questionnaire required.

- UHS I-9 Attestation (proof of eligibility to work)
- Ohio Fingerprints (BCI&I check) and FCRA-compliant National Database Criminal Background Check (requirements vary based on residency duration in Ohio)
- UHS Criminal Background Check (within 6 months)
- UHS Social Security Trace (if not included in background check)
- UHS NSO (if not included in background check)
- UHS OIG Search (within 6 months)
- UHS SAM/EPLS/GSA/OFAC Screening (within 6 months)
- UHS Drug Screen (10-panel, within 60 days of start; no instant tests)
- UHS Education Verification (highest level of education verified; international equivalency required if applicable)
- UHS Employment Verification (within last 5 years)
- UHS Competency Exam (score ≥80%, within 1 year)
- UHS Core Competencies (score ≥80%, includes HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA topics; one-time requirement)
- UHS Skills Checklist (clinical skills checklist, completed within 1 year prior to start)
- UHS Module Completion Certificate (completion of safety and compliance training modules)
- UHS Badge Photo (professional headshot, JPEG format)
- Driver’s License or State ID (non-expired)
- Resume including education, work history, and 2 professional references within last 2 years; completed job application required
Additional Notes
- Temporary RN licenses are not accepted; must have a valid permanent license.
- Attestations are generally not accepted for licenses, education, employment, and background checks.
- Some immunization boosters require follow-up titers and documentation of certification dates.
- Floating assignments require flexibility to work in multiple inpatient units.
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with step-down or progressive care experience who meet the comprehensive credentialing and compliance requirements for University Hospitals in Ohio.
