Neurology Rehab Nurse - Phoenix, Arizona

Job Overview

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years of core experience in Neurology Rehab or MedSurg (higher requirement applies)
  • Additional Experience: Level 1 Trauma experience required
  • Prior Travel Experience: Required for ED and Neuro ICU roles (not explicitly stated for this role, so not required here)

Certifications & Exams

  • Required Certifications:
    • RN BLS
    • FIM (Functional Independence Measure) certification preferred
  • Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam: Must pass 24-48 hours prior to acceptance; 2 attempts allowed
  • Day 1 Pass/Fail SIMs Lab: Includes Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (except ED and Neuro ICU have modified requirements)

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Shift Details:
    • Tech start times: 6:30 AM, 3:00 PM, 11:30 PM
    • Floating to any MedSurg unit required
    • Floor-specific orientation: 2 shifts
  • Nurse to Patient Ratios:
    • RN: 1:6
    • Tech: 1:8
  • Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 8 weeks
  • Holidays: Worked as part of core rotation
  • Scrub Color: Slate grey
  • Telemetry: No
  • Ventilator Patients: No
  • Additional Staff Support:
    • 2 Charge Nurses with light assignments depending on census
    • Nurse aides available
    • Rehab Physicians (3) round daily, on-call at night
    • RT and Pharmacy available 24/7
    • SWAT RN available for difficult IV sticks

Patient Population & Care

  • Common Diagnoses:
    • 90% neuro population
    • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
    • Brain tumor resection
    • Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA)
    • Lung transplant
    • Liver transplant
  • Care Model:
    • Low stimulation area
    • Interdisciplinary team rounds 5 days/week, 3 hours/day therapy
    • Average length of stay: 19-21 days
  • Nursing Skills:
    • Acute MedSurg care including IV therapy and wound care
    • High level of communication and personal involvement with patients and families
    • Partnership of care approach

Additional Notes

  • Candidates cannot work two contracts simultaneously within this system
  • Must have been off permanent staff status with the system for 12 months to be eligible for travel assignment
  • Travel teams must have their own vehicles
  • Parking is assigned with shuttle service to the facility
  • Orientation occurs weekly on Mondays (except holidays)
  • Busy times typically 6-9 AM and 6:30-9 PM
