Registered Nurse - Step Down Unit

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (approximately 13 weeks)


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse with Step Down specialty experience to provide patient care in a step-down unit setting.


Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Neuro specialty (higher experience requirement noted).
  • Level 1 travel experience required (prior travel experience is mandatory).

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid, permanent RN license (temporary licenses not accepted).
  • BLS (American Heart Association only).
  • ACLS (American Heart Association only).
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Required Health & Immunization Requirements

  • COVID-19 vaccine series preferred but not required (medical or religious exemptions accepted).
  • MMR: Positive titers within last 15 years or appropriate booster protocol.
  • Varicella: Positive titers within last 15 years or appropriate booster protocol.
  • Tdap vaccination within the last 10 years (no declinations accepted).
  • Hepatitis B: Proof of full series, partial series, or signed declination form (agency form acceptable).
  • Influenza vaccine required during flu season (October-March) or completion of specific masking and declination forms.
  • 2-Step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot) within last 6 months; if positive, clear chest x-ray and current TB questionnaire required.
  • Fit test for N95 respirators completed within 1 year prior to start.
  • Physical exam within 1 year prior to start confirming ability to work without restrictions.

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 6 months including Social Security trace, county searches, national sex offender registry, and national criminal sweep.
  • Ohio fingerprinting and FBI background checks as applicable based on residency duration. Attestations allowed only for pending results with proof of completion.
  • OIG exclusion check within 6 months prior to start.
  • SAM/EPLS/GSA/OFAC clearance within 6 months prior to start.
  • Drug screen within 60 days prior to start (10-panel, lab report required; instant screens not accepted).
  • Employment verification for the last 5 years through third-party verification.
  • Education verification through third-party; international education requires equivalency documentation.
  • I-9 attestation confirming eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Submission packet including resume, 2 professional references (within last 2 years), job application, and employment history form.
  • Non-expired photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • Badge photo (headshot, shoulders up, plain background, JPEG format).

Competency & Skills Requirements

  • Completion of skills checklist within 1 year prior to start (clinical skills specific to the role).
  • Competency exam with a minimum passing score of 80% within 1 year prior to start.
  • Core competencies including HIPAA, Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals, OSHA topics completed within 1 year prior to start with minimum 80% score.
  • Completion of required safety and compliance training modules prior to clearance; annual renewal required.

Additional Notes

  • Temporary licenses are not accepted; must have a valid permanent RN license.
  • Prior travel experience is required; candidates must have completed at least one prior travel contract.
  • Attestations are generally not accepted except for fingerprinting pending results with proper documentation.
  • Some immunization boosters require follow-up titers after administration.
  • Flu vaccine declination requires specific masking and documentation compliance.

This position is ideal for experienced Neuro Step Down RNs with prior travel experience seeking a long-term assignment in Ohio.
