Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Room is responsible for delivering safe patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role involves:

  • Providing direct patient care within the RN scope of practice.
  • Directing and guiding patient/family teaching and nursing personnel activities.
  • Maintaining professional nursing care standards in the Emergency Department.
  • Communicating patient condition changes and diagnostic results to physicians.
  • Responding quickly and accurately to patient condition changes or treatment responses.
  • Knowledge of EMTALA regulations and reporting of abuse to appropriate agencies.
  • Maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality.

Required Qualifications

Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid RN license for California.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross).
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross).
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross).
  • DCI/BVP (Workplace Violence Prevention) certification.

Exams & Testing

  • Prime Basic Pharmacology Exam (minimum 80% score).
  • Prime Basic Rhythm Interpretation Screening (minimum 80% score).
  • Prime Core Competencies Exam (minimum 80% score).
  • Prime Specialty Exam (minimum 80% score).
  • Prime Skills Checklist (does not expire on assignment).

Health & Immunizations

  • COVID-19 Vaccine: 2 doses plus booster or completed declination.
  • MMR: Proof of 2 vaccines or positive titer showing immunity.
  • Hepatitis B: Vaccination required; declinations not accepted.
  • Influenza Vaccine: Required during flu season; declinations not accepted.
  • TB Test: Within one year of start date.
  • Varicella: Vaccination or titer showing immunity.
  • Tdap: Adult vaccination required; declinations not accepted.
  • Annual Respirator Fit Test (must be completed prior to start if not available onsite).
  • Physical/Health Statement: Current within one year, must state clear to work.
  • Drug Screening: Minimum 10-panel test including THC saliva test (California-specific requirements).

Background & Documentation

  • National Criminal Background Check within one year of start date.
  • Prime SAM/EPLS exclusion check.
  • Prime Form I-9 (Employment eligibility verification).
  • Prime Resume reflecting accurate and recent work history.
  • Two professional references required (one from a manager or direct supervisor).
  • Driver’s License or State ID.
  • Prime Badge Photo (clear headshot).
  • Prime Agency Attestation.
  • Prime Job Description signed and current.
