Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Phoenix, Arizona

Job Description
- Work in a Level 1 Trauma, teaching hospital with a 36-bed acute ED and 54-bed subacute unit.
- Trauma bays (6) do not accept travelers.
- Facility is a nationally recognized tertiary care center with specialties including lung, liver, and kidney transplants, and associated with a top neuro institute.
- Patient volume: Approximately 250-300 patients per day, 88,000 per year.
- Common patient types: Trauma, burns, psych holds (30-40), with pediatric patients transferred out.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4.
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per month (unit discretion).
- Shifts include 12-hour nights; holiday coverage based on unit needs.
- Floating: Within the ER only.
- Orientation: 2-3 shifts floor-specific orientation plus SIMs Lab training (pass/fail) on Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (varies by unit).
- EMR system: Cerner (required).
- Telemetry monitors: Phillips; ability to read strips required.
- Respiratory Therapy available 24/7; vents managed by RT.
- Pharmacy available 24/7 with pharmacist in ER 10 hours/day.
- Charge nurses: 2, with light patient loads or task assignments.
- Nurse aides: 4 patient care technicians for sitter duties.
- Float policy: Can float between 4 facilities within ~30 minutes apart.
- Travel teams must have their own vehicles.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of core ER nursing experience required.
- Trauma Experience: At least 6 months Level 1 Trauma experience required.
- Prior Travel Experience: Previous travel experience required for ED and Neuro ICU.
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) — ENPC not accepted as a substitute
- Preferred: TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) and ATCN (Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses)
- Licensure: Valid RN license for Arizona.
- Other Requirements:
- Must pass Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam within 24-48 hours prior to position acceptance (max 2 attempts; failure results in 6-month disqualification in region).
- Must pass a Day 1 pass/fail exam during orientation.
- Must complete SIMs Lab competency training (sterile field maintenance critical).
- No facial piercings and only natural hair colors allowed.
- Male candidates must be clean-shaven for fit testing.
- Cannot hold two contracts simultaneously within this system.
- Must have been off permanent staff at this system for 12 months to qualify for travel assignment.

- This is a teaching hospital; nurses may have nursing students assigned.
- Candidates must comply with a 50-mile radius rule for travel.
- Parking is assigned with shuttle service to the facility; night shift parking differs.
- Float assignments may include multiple campuses and freestanding ERs within the system.
- The hospital expects high competency in sterile technique and common nursing procedures.
- Psych holds and trauma cases are common; experience with these patient populations is important.
This position is ideal for experienced ER nurses with trauma background and prior travel experience looking for a 13-week assignment in a high-acuity, teaching hospital environment.
