Registered Nurse – Neuro ICU

Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Neuro ICU Registered Nurse for a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital with a 32-bed Neuro ICU unit. This role requires strong neuro assessment skills and experience with intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring. The position involves floating between ICU and Telemetry units with a patient ratio of 1:2 in Neuro ICU and 4:1 on Telemetry.


Unit Details

  • Unit: Neuro ICU
  • Beds: 32
  • Patient Types: Critical care patients with neurological diagnoses including craniotomies, brain tumor removals, ablations, brain biopsies, complex spine surgeries, and scoliosis repair
  • EMR System: Cerner
  • Monitors: Phillips
  • Ventilators: Yes
  • Respiratory Therapy: 24/7 coverage
  • Pharmacy: 24/7 coverage
  • Charge Nurse: Yes (does not take patients)
  • Shifts: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm), may be placed on standby
  • Floating: Required to float across all ICU floors and Telemetry units
  • Orientation: 2 shifts on the floor
  • Holidays: Work integrated into core staff rotation
  • Scrub Color: Any non-offensive color or print; steel grey preferred for Neuro floors

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Arizona
  • Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU experience, including experience within the last year
  • 3-6 months or more of total travel experience
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Experience with external ventricular drain (EVD) care
  • Experience with intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring
  • Experience using Cerner electronic medical record (EMR) system
