Job Overview

A hospital in California is seeking an experienced Cath Lab RN for a travel contract position. The role involves working in a Cath Lab environment with a variety of cardiovascular procedures.

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of Cath Lab nursing experience
• PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention) experience required
• Pacemaker experience highly preferred
• Active California RN license
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Ability to scrub cases as an RN
• Prefer experience with procedural sedation

Certifications

• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Work Environment & Duties

• Unit: Cath Lab with 5 suites/labs
• Average cases per day vary greatly
• Common patient diagnoses/procedures: Structural heart cases, PCI, EVARs, peripheral angiography, pacemakers, stents, axillaries, coronaries
• Job duties include scrubbing cases, maintaining sterile field, room turnover, patient transport, and documentation
• EMR systems used: Cerner & Merge
• Cardiologist hours: 7 AM to 7 PM, with on-call coverage after hours
• Charge nurse or resource nurse available during regular hours

Scheduling & Shifts

• Shift lengths: 8-hour and 12-hour shifts starting at 7 AM
• High need for coverage on Mondays and Fridays
• Call requirements:

  • One weeknight call per week (self-sign up), starting after department closes
  • Weekend call scheduled in rotation, approximately 1 full weekend every 5 weeks
  • Holiday call covered by self-sign up or assigned if no volunteers
• Call response time: 30 minutes

Additional Information

• Floating: May float to Interventional Radiology (IR) or Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU) to assist with admissions
• Surgical scrubs provided
• Orientation: Unit-specific orientation typically 36-40 hours (varies by skill set), includes 8-hour days and call shifts, usually every other week
• Cath Lab currently staffed only with RNs who can scrub; no Cath Lab techs currently staffed
