Registered Nurse (RN) - Float Pool (PCU, Tele, Med Surg)
Location: Prescott, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
Seeking RNs to float between Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Telemetry, and Medical-Surgical units. The role involves caring for inpatients including those holding in the Emergency Department. Units include stepdown and med/tele areas with varying patient acuity.
Unit Details
- Units Covered: MedSurg, Telemetry, PCU (including stepdown and inpatient holding in ED)
- Nurse:Patient Ratios:
- PCU: 1:4
- MedSurg/Telemetry: 1:5-6
- Common Patient Types:
- Geriatric patients
- Orthopedic patients
- Post-procedural cardiac patients (post MI, post cardiac cath, CABG post-op day 3-4)
- Drip Management: RNs are required to titrate drips such as Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin.
- Respiratory Equipment: CPAP, BiPAP, and Heated High Flow used in PCU and MedSurg.
- Telemetry: Monitor techs monitor PCU and MedSurg Telemetry units; RNs must be able to interpret cardiac strips.
- Charge Nurse: Present on each unit but does not take patient assignments.
- Nurse Aids: Utilized across all settings.
Schedule & Orientation
- Shifts: 7 AM - 7 PM (AM and PM shifts)
- Scheduling: Managed by float pool scheduler; schedule published 6 weeks in advance for 4 weeks at a time. Night shift may allow block scheduling.
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Included in permanent staff rotation
- Call/Standby: None
- Unit Assignment Notification: Via text message 2 hours before shift start
- Orientation:
- 8-hour general hospital orientation day
- 12-hour shift orientation at West MedTele and PCU units (similar orientation at East campus)
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license in the state of Arizona
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing
- Minimum 1 year of experience in PCU setting
- ACLS and BLS certifications
- Must pass dysrhythmia exam with a minimum score of 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing
- Comfortable managing multiple titratable drips
- Ability to interpret cardiac telemetry strips
Additional Notes
- Candidates must not have been employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any related facilities within the past year (radius rule applies).
- Dress code currently solid color professional scrubs; transitioning to navy scrubs in October.
- Travel experience is not explicitly required.
