Description

Registered Nurse - Surgical Specialty

Location

  • Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Job Type

  • Registered Nurse (Direct Care)
  • 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
  • Contract length: 13 weeks

Unit Description

  • Medical/Surgical unit focused on acute care surgical patients
  • Care for inpatients pre- or post-surgical services
  • Includes patients with new drains, wounds, tracheostomies, ostomies, nasogastric tubes (NGT), or double lumen hemodialysis catheters (DHT)
  • Some patients require stepdown/Progressive Care Unit (PCU) level care
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios: 5:1 for surgical patients, 3:1 for stepdown area
  • ENT and/or transplant experience preferred
  • OR candidates will not be accepted

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to a variety of patients with simple to complex health problems under general supervision
  • Assume responsibility for an assigned group of patients
  • Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed treatments
  • Assist physicians with examinations and minor diagnostic procedures
  • Obtain and monitor physiological data; intervene as necessary
  • Administer medications, intravenous infusions, and blood products
  • Communicate care plans with patients and families, including at discharge
  • Make referrals regarding patient care needs
  • Delegate tasks to support staff

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oklahoma
  • Minimum 1 year of Med Surg nursing experience within the last year
  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
  • Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
