Registered Nurse (CVICU) - Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Unit and Patient Population
- Department: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
- Unit size: 18 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1
- Patient types: Open heart, complex thoracic and vascular surgery patients
- Common cases: Patients supported by Impella, IABP, CRRT, ECMO; advanced cardiac surgeries; lytic cases; carotids; TCARS; Fempop; EVARs/Endo AAAs
- Also supports complex cases from cath lab, structural heart program, EP lab, ER, and clinic
Required Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1 year experience with CVICU patient population
Clinical Skills and Responsibilities
- Must be able to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips independently (no telemetry tech support)
- Troubleshoot respiratory equipment (ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow)
- Pass a skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% (open book)
Staffing and Support
- Charge nurse present on each shift and takes patient assignments
- No certified nursing assistants (CNAs) on unit
- Hospitalists and intensivists in-house 24/7
Scheduling and Work Environment
- Shifts: 0630-1830 and 1830-0630
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday requirement: Every other holiday or as needed
- No call or standby requirement
- Floating required to all inpatient units except Maternity and NICU
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
- Orientation: 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation
Additional Information
- Driver’s license required at submission to verify candidate location within 50-mile radius
- Candidates cannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with certain affiliated health systems within the radius
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply may result in contract termination
- Rapid turnaround time required for onboarding (7 days or less for this 13-week contract)
