Job Opportunity: Pediatric Stepdown Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for a Pediatric Stepdown unit. This is a travel/contract position with targeted start dates available. Orientation sessions are held bi-weekly.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Minimum 1 year of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within the last year
- Experience in Pediatric Cardiac Stepdown
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks: Must be completed within 90 days of start date, including SSN trace, county searches, nationwide and international checks (if applicable), sex offender registry, and education verification as required.
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug test (including THC) required within 30 days of start. Instant tests are not accepted.
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Immunizations/vaccinations including Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years), Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination), Polio vaccine or attestation
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Seasonal flu vaccination required for the flu season (October 9 – April 1); no exemptions allowed
- References: Two professional references from employment within the last 12 months, with at least one supervisor reference
- Employment Application: Complete with 7 years of work history
Orientation & Onboarding
- Orientation is bi-weekly and includes competency exams and pass/fail testing (EKG/medication knowledge) on the first day.
- Candidates must set up a facility-specific guest account prior to clearance to access orientation and work systems.
- Completion of online modules prior to orientation is required.
- Competency checklists (CBOs) must be completed within 3 weeks after start date.
Additional Notes
- First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
- Candidates must be able to provide government-issued photo ID and Social Security card (if used for I9 verification).
- Candidates must comply with facility-specific policies and complete all required documentation and training on time to avoid contract cancellation.
