Registered Nurse – PCU (Night Shift) – Fayetteville, North Carolina

Job Details

  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Night (4 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
  • Hours per Week: 48
  • Patient Ratio: 1:4-5
  • Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Scheduling: Weekend shifts required every other weekend
  • Block Scheduling: Open to accommodation
  • Floating: Required to float within scope to meet facility needs between like units
  • Travel Pairs: Not accepted
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted (50-mile radius rule from main campus)
  • Return Staff Policy: Must be gone for 1 year to return as a traveler
  • Contract Limit: Maximum of 2 contracts (can extend once), then must be gone for 6 months before returning
  • Guaranteed Hours: Call-off policy allows 2 shifts off per 13-week assignment; all contracted shifts beyond that are guaranteed

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU), with PCU experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Background Check: Required within 6 months of start; includes SSN trace, 7-year county residence, nationwide search, sex offender search, and international search if applicable; convictions within last year or active cases disqualify
  • Physical Exam: Required within 1 year, signed by physician, NP, or PA-C; must be updated annually
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days (includes amphetamines, methamphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene, marijuana)
  • Immunizations and Titers:
    • TDAP vaccine within last 10 years (no declinations accepted)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters required if titers negative or equivocal
    • Varicella: Titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters required if titers negative or equivocal
    • Hepatitis B: Vaccine series, positive titer, or signed declination accepted
  • TB Screening: Negative PPD, Q Gold, or T-spot within 1 year; chest X-ray required if positive PPD (not older than 5 years); annual renewal required
  • Flu Vaccination: Required year-round; medical or religious exemptions accepted with facility-specific forms; must be updated annually with documentation for 2025-2026 season; declinations not accepted

  • Total Staffed Beds: 733
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Scrub Color: Royal blue and white
  • Orientation: Majority of the first day is orientation; report time 6:30 AM on Monday at Human Resources
  • Photo for Badge: Professional passport-style photo required without large earrings, face jewelry, unnatural hair colors, or head coverings (unless religious)
  • Required Documents: Multiple facility-specific forms must be reviewed, signed, and/or completed prior to start (e.g., confidentiality agreement, emergency contact, job description acknowledgment, code of conduct, parking registration if driving, computer use acknowledgment, flu policy acknowledgment)

Additional Notes

  • Interview Availability: Must be provided upon submission
  • On-call: Not required
  • Return to Office Restrictions: Per manager’s discretion
  • COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required but accepted if available
  • Travel Experience: Prior travel experience not required
