Registered Nurse (PCU) - Night Shift
Location
- Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Shift Details
- Night shift
- 12-hour shifts (18:30 - 07:00)
- 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend required
- Every third holiday required
- No call or standby requirement
Unit Information
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with 35 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4-5
- Nurse aide/patient care tech ratio: 1:10 or 2:20
- Charge nurse present on each shift (does not take patient assignment)
- Floating required to medical floors, ICU, or rehab units
- Orientation: 1 week onboarding plus 1-2 days unit-specific orientation
- Fast-paced environment caring for adults and geriatrics with cardiac, nephrology, stroke, diabetes, and continuous EEG monitoring patients
- RNs are required to titrate drips (e.g., Cardizem, beta blockers, seizure medications)
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years as an RN
- Minimum 1 year PCU or relevant unit experience
- Certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Valid driver’s license (used to verify candidate is within 50-mile radius)
- Must pass a 90% score on a pass/fail open book skills exam during orientation
- Compliance with fingernail policy: artificial nails prohibited in patient care areas (non-compliance leads to contract termination)
Additional Notes
- Candidates cannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with a specific large healthcare system within the 50-mile radius
- Return to work (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO extensions allowed
- Successful nurses demonstrate a positive attitude, teamwork, strong communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
