Description

Job Opportunity: NICU/Postpartum RN

Location: Ithaca, New York
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM


Job Summary

  • Provide direct patient care within the Maternal Child Health department.
  • Collaborate with unit leadership and follow nursing scope of practice guidelines relevant to Maternal Child Health.
  • Assess and care for mother/baby couplets, including postpartum patients.
  • Use a person-centered care approach to develop and prioritize care plans.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Act as a resource to peers and facilitate coordination with other healthcare disciplines.
  • Postpartum experience is required; must be able to independently care for mother/baby couplets.

Required Qualifications

  • License: Valid RN license in New York State; state license verification must be completed within 30 days prior to start. Nursys verification required within 30 days prior to start.
  • Experience: Postpartum nursing experience required.
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (American Heart Association) – must remain valid throughout assignment
    • NRP or STABLE – must remain valid throughout assignment
    • AWHONN/Fetal Heart Monitoring – must remain valid throughout assignment
  • Skills Checklist: Completed and updated annually for the assigned unit.
  • Core Competency Exam: Must score 80% or higher on required nursing core competency exams.
  • Additional Testing: Pharmacology exam required.

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Immunizations and Titers:
    • MMR: Positive IgG titer or 2 vaccine series required; documentation must show individual results for Measles, Mumps, and Rubella.
    • Varicella: Positive IgG titer or 2 vaccine series required.
    • Hepatitis B: Positive antibody titer, 3 vaccine series, or specific declination form required.
    • Tdap: Preferred within last 10 years; if not available, a declination form is required.
  • TB Testing: Must have one of the following within required timeframes:
    • Two skin PPDs (one within 12 months, one within 3 months) or
    • One Quantiferon/Spot test within 12 months.
    • Past positive TB tests require chest x-ray within 12 months.
  • COVID-19 Vaccine: Optional; proof of vaccination or agency declination can be uploaded.
  • Fit Test: Annual fit test required within last 12 months; on-site fit testing available if needed.
  • Physical/Health Statement: Must be from within the last 12 months, include physician credentials, vitals, height, weight, Snellen eye chart, and a statement of clearance with no restrictions.

Onboarding and Documentation Requirements

  • Valid US driver’s license or state ID (not expired).
  • Agency background check completed within 30 days of start, including national and county criminal searches for all counties lived/worked in last 7 years.
  • Drug screen (9+ panel) completed within 30 days of start.
  • Centralus-specific documentation including:
    • Skills checklist, core competency exam results, job description, employment verification, professional references (1 supervisor reference within last 12 months and 1 supervisor or peer reference within last 3 years), color headshot, and various acknowledgment forms.
  • Resume accounting for all employment and gaps for the last 7 years, including education history with degree titles and graduation dates.
  • Completion of Centralus Epic Questionnaire and TB Questionnaire Form.

Additional Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
  • Must be able to independently manage postpartum and NICU patient care responsibilities.
  • Emphasis on critical thinking, clinical judgment, and collaborative care planning.

This position is ideal for experienced NICU/Postpartum RNs seeking a 13-week long-term assignment with a night shift schedule in New York.
