Registered Nurse – Labor & Delivery
Location: Grand Island, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Shift Length: 12-hour shifts
Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirement: Yes, if needed
Call/Standby: None
Job Description
- Travel assignment in Labor & Delivery (L&D) for a hospital in Nebraska.
- Work includes day and night shifts with a focus on labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum care.
- Unit has 15 LDRP beds and 15 postpartum beds.
- Patient population includes obstetrics, postpartum, antepartum, post-surgical gynecology, and pregnancies complicated by hypertension or diabetes.
- Follow AWHONN guidelines for nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:3 generally, 1:1 for laboring patients.
- RNs are required to titrate drips such as Pitocin, Magnesium, and Procardia.
- Floating is rare and only for critical staffing, limited to sitting or task duties.
- Charge nurse present on each shift and takes an assignment.
- No requirement for RNs to manage respiratory equipment beyond troubleshooting.
- No telemetry/monitor techs on unit; RNs do not read their own strips.
- Orientation includes 1 week classroom plus 2-3 shifts on the floor.
- The unit is recognized for high patient care quality and is breastfeeding friendly.
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license.
- Minimum 3 years of Labor & Delivery experience.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
- Must pass a 90% or higher on a pass/fail skills exam during orientation (open book).
- Valid driver’s license required at time of application to verify distance compliance.
- Must comply with a 50-mile radius rule from the facility.
- Candidates cannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with certain health systems.
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply may result in contract termination.
- Return to work (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO extensions allowed.

- The position offers exposure to a popular travel destination with scenic surroundings.
- Scheduling is managed by the unit manager.
- No call or standby responsibilities.
- The assignment requires flexibility for every other weekend work and potential holiday shifts.
